Chingford 53 - 0 Tabard

Table toppers Chingford entertained bottom placed team Tabard last Saturday at Waltham Way. With the distance between the sides in the league table, on paper this looked as if it would be an easy game, but I am sure Eton Manor felt the same when they played them last week, and unfortunately for the Manor Tabard registered only their second victory of the season, so the was no way this game was going to be taken lightly by the Chingford side. It was bright and sunny Saturday, ideal weather for an entertaining game of rugby, and that is what the home supporters got to see, an extremely entertaining game with the rugby being played all over the park, with Chingford attacking from deep and playing with ball in hand. With solid defence from John Williams, and the dogged determination of Ben Jeynes, Tabard never even threatened the Chingford line seriously, add that to guile and skill of David Knight Chingford looked quality from 1 to 15. Chingford welcomed back for the first time in 2008 John Burnage, who dominated the line-outs, and was more than frisky around field, popping up to pass the ball on when tries were ready to be scored. With Captain Declan Bird leading the charge Chingford scored 5 tries in the first half, and 4 tries in the second, but out of those 9 tries only 4 were converted. The centres of Matty Lockwood and Tobias de-Klerk both scored 2 tries each, with de-Klerk kicking 3 conversions as well, before both had to leave the field due to injuries, that eventually led to the home side playing out the final 15 minutes with 14 men, 13 to be honest when Campbell was sent to the sin bin for a 10 minute period just before the end.

Once again Chingford's back row were immense, with Gavan who is playing better every week, the intelligence and frightening power of Hoad, and the constant dynamo that is Luke " Stumpy" Campbell, meant that every ball was challenged for and quite often turned over, then moved away and the home side were once again on the attack. Leading those strikes was the evergreen Jan Bonney who would ghost his way through tackles, and unselfishly of load the ball to allow his youngsters to steal the glory and score the points, and with a final score of 53- 0 the certainly did score. Point scorers of the day were Matty Lockwood with 2 tries, Tobias de-Klerk 2 tries and 3 conversions, Kieran Bowling 1 try,Thomas Lockwood managed 1 try, as did Luke Campbell, Ryan Pask, who has now scored 2 tries in the last 2 games and Neil Carlsson also scoring 1 try, with Carlsson also adding 1 conversion.

"A good result today, it was nice to see that the players did not take their feet off the gas in the second half, when the game had been won in the first half hour. Everybody played extremely well, and the will be some hard decisions to make at selection, with the players who came off the bench, Piper, Hollis and Hastings all making a case to be included in the starting line-up for next weeks game away to Staines. This is going to be a massive game for Chingford, and if we manage to come away with a win, we can then start to look at possibly promotion next year, but as the side has done every game so far this season with will just take 1 game at a time, and then everything else should fall into place. Please come along and shout on the boys in Black, White and Blue, because they do appreciate the support that follows them around so come on down to Staines, and lets hope for a winning result for Chingford," said Chingford's happy Manager Phil Howell.
