| 16 Oct 2011 | Cup | National Colts Cup v Barking RFC | Away | Loss | 12 | 48 | Report | A brave performance against a strong Barking Colts Academy side ended in a 48-12 defeat. Chingford were competitive in a first half that ended 17-5 to the home team, however the superior fitness and speed of Barking plus injuries to a number of the Chingford lads saw them run away towards the end of the match giving a score that did not reflect a hard fought encounter. |
| 23 Oct 2011 | Welwyn | Away | Win | 47 | 8 | Report | Chingford were away this week at Welwyn and were expecting another tough encounter as opponents Welwyn had recently dumped old Albanians out of the National Colts Cup and run 2 successful XV’s. Apparently Welwyn had 8 players away on County duty but still looked impressive in their warm up work & drills, especially their large pack of forwards. We were not disappointed, from the kick off Welwyn’s forwards took control and were rewarded with a penalty to go 3-0 up. However, Chingford are a tougher nut to crack this season and the front row of Hall, Parker & Kristakis gradually began to get on top of their larger opponents, Richard Pemberton was dominating the lineout and Prowse, Milligan & Jordan were competitive at the breakdown. Some smart work by fly half Josh Porter put Connor Weston in for the try and just before half time Daniel Gilbert crashed over to give Chingford a 14-3 half time lead. The ferocity & quality of Chingford’s first half performance looked to have surprised Welwyn, who had begun to realise their afternoon was not going to be as easy as they had initially thought. With injuries to the Welwyn front row the second half started with non contested scrums, Chingford had made a raft of changes but continued to dominate, scoring 3 quick tries effectively ending the game as a contest and those big Welwyn forwards began to look smaller and smaller. The arrival of Jimmy Griffiths was the final nail in the Welwyn coffin. The highlight of the second half being a well taken hat trick for James Hankey, getting rewarded for some fine running off the ball. All 24 players who travelled got plenty of game time and with no new injuries to report it was excellent afternoon for the Chingford side. This Sunday Chingford make the difficult trip away to South Woodham Ferrers, we can however travel with some confidence off the back of recent displays. | |
| 30 Oct 2011 | Friendly | South Woodham Ferrers RFC | Away | Loss | 10 | 12 | Report | Chingford were away at South Woodham Ferrers on Sunday and played a full part in a very hard game. Chingford struggled against a very strong South Woodham Ferrers pack. After turning around 12 - 0 down at the break, Chingford came back winning the second half 10 - 0. Missing both conversions and an easy penalty in front of the posts, all be it into a strong wind. With everyone putting in a shift the boys that made the trip can be proud of a committed performance against a very good team. |

| 13 Nov 2011 | Friendly | Rochford RFC | Home | Win | 45 | 5 | Report | Colts V Rochford, Very sloppy 1st half maybe this being due to the amount of sleep and drink these boys had the night before at the Chingford Rave. Couple of 1st half tries for Akeem proving to be a great finisher. At HT the boys went in with a slight lead but blew Rochford away in the second half with a fantastic display. |

| 27 Nov 2011 | Ruislip RFC | Away | Loss | 7 | 24 | Report | Chingford’s most disappointing performance of the season so far. We were second best in all areas to a highly motivated and physical Ruislip team. A fine try down the slope was all Chingford could manage, turning round 5 – 7 up. With the slope& wind Ruislip pinned Chingford into their own half for long spells. Continual comings and goings with injury throughout the second half did not help Chingford gain any momentum. Ruislip butchered a number of chances and had 2 tries disallowed. The final score could have been a lot worse. Nuff said, Chingford look forward to another trip round the North Circular next Sunday away to Finchley. Some improvement will be expected. | |

| 11 Dec 2011 | Cup | Chingford RFC v Rochford RFC | Home | Win | 36 | 0 | Report | Sunday 11th December - Chingford 36 – Rochford 0.
Chingford progress to the semi finals of the Essex Colts Cup after a fine display against Rochford on Sunday. Rochford kicked off with the wind at their backs and immediately camped in Chingford’s 22. Their strong pack creating problems for Chingford in the lineout and at scrum time. It was during this opening 20 minute spell that the Chingford paved the way to victory with some outstanding defence. Time and time again Rochford drove at the Chingford line but the intensity of the Chingford tackling and work at breakdown meant Rochford failed to press home their early advantage, missing a kickable penalty after 10 mins. Finally Chingford gained some possession and a smart break downfield ended up in a 5 metre scrum for Rochford, some poor Rochford handling from the resulting possession saw Chingford scamper in for a 7-0 lead. Shortly afterwards further loose play from a lineout in their own 22 and Jimmy Griffiths collected the ball to drive through and score giving Chingford a 12-0 half time lead. The second half was always going to difficult for Rochford to get back in the game. As Chingford started the win some first phase possession accurate kicking pinned Rochford in their own 22 for long spells. The pressure telling as Rochford’s challenge gradually wilted, Chingford ran in a further 4 tries. All the squad and coaching team should be proud of a performance of great intensity, discipline & maturity. We now look forward to a semi final away to Chelmsford on the 1st April 2012.

| 22 Jan 2012 | Cup | Welwyn RFC | Home | Loss | 10 | 26 | Report | A disappointing day on a number of levels. It is a real shame that we still have players arriving 5 minutes before the match starts without informing any of the coaching team as to why. This shows a real lack of respect for the coaches and the rest of the team. The very least that should be expected is a phone call. On to the game. Welwyn arrived with a full strength squad containing 9 county players after we agreed to put the game back a week in exchange for playing it at home. From the kick off it was apparent Welwyn were a very good, well organised outfit. Welwyn playing with the wind slightly behind them soon had Chingford scrambling in defence and forced a number of early penalties converted by their excellent fly half to give them a 0-9 lead. Throughout this period Chingford were under immense pressure and Welwyn were dominating proceedings. Chingford made the odd foray upfield but poor options and continual conceding of penalties allowed Welwyn to relieve the pressure with some huge touch finders. Never mind Chingford’s casual attitude to chasing back. It was from the resulting line out of one such kick that the Welwyn back line showed some real class and opened up Chingford, their powerful centre going in under the posts despite a fine attempt at a tackle from Tom Drew, 0-16 . Throughout the first half Chingford looked hesitant and off the pace, Welwyn were undoudtably a useful side but boy were we making them look good. With minutes of the first half remaining Chingford failed to defend a 5 metre lineout and were driven back, Welwyn went in to half time 0-23 up. Changes were made at half time and at last Chingford started to get their offloading game going, Karl Milligan and Imran Durowoju were both prominent in driving Chingford forward and after some fine linking play Chingford scored to give themselves some confidence. By this stage Welwyn has also made a number of substitutions and it was a much more even game, Chingford defended better and were more aggressive and accurate at the breakdown, this evened up the penalty count and Chingford had a foothold in the game. Welwyn however had no thoughts of giving this up and their outside half continued to dominate proceedings with his excellent distribution and accurate kicking game. He added another penalty before Rhys Miller added a second try for Chingford on the stroke of fulltime – Final Score Chingford 10 Welwyn 26. A much improved second half showed what we are capable of & what might have been, after a very disappointing first half. Welwyn showed flashes of real class and their big, physical pack should see them well into the next round. Their fly half Josh Hewitt was man of the match, a real class act. The game was played in good spirit & well refereed. Well played Welwyn & good luck in the next round. |
