1. Wesley MbeweA see-saw tussle on the infamous slope at Brentwood saw the home side register Chingford’s first defeat of the season. On a windless sunny day Chingford played down the hill first half only to be caught asleep in the first five minutes by a marauding run from the tight head prop finished off by the blind side flanker and duly converted. Chingford then started their own assault which led first to a penalty converted by Brendan Hart, followed soon after by a deserved try wide right from Donagh Fitzgerald, unfortunately not converted. After this Chingford should have scored many more tries but due to bad handling had to be content with a late strike wide left by Ted pike. This conversion was also missed which would have repercussions later on, but left Chingford 13 – 7 up at half time.
As expected the second half saw Brentwood play to their strengths, aiming everything at the bottom right hand corner but good defence by Chingford meant their line was only broached once and duly converted. Chingford pressure then led to a penalty which Hart converted to retake the lead. This was sacrificed soon after when Brentwood’s own penalty was slotted home to make it 17-16. A five minute burst then by Brentwood saw a push over rolling maul try followed by a kick and rush try which killed the match dead With only seconds remaining a fine threequarter move by Chingford resulted in another try for Fitzgerald but now Hart needed the kick for a losing bonus point but his kick was off target and the final whistle went signifying a well deserved victory by Brentwood 29-21
