Match Report
Well done - another win. (38 - 0)
After frantic ringing around over the week Chingford managed to put together a strong team
which travelled to Chelmsford confident in their previous wins. Special thanks to Phil on debut, Dan who
was available on the bench and Joe Piper who played well after a lengthy spell out due to work commitments.
The game started off well with Chingford playing downhill with the wind behind them which suited me
as I was only going to play the first half anyway! Chelmsford were proving a handful at the start and it was
only some good kicking from Joe which allowed his mate on the wing to score a try after several attempts at clever
kicks behind the defence.
Good forward play saw first Joby and then Taylor crash over from short range after some good driving and mauling
play from the forwards. Chingford continued to dominate the scoring but were never really in total control
during the first half as Chelmsford fought for every ball.
The second half saw a few changes and Chingford were expecting a hard half down hill with the wind against them but a strong scrum and some good rucking play saw them keep the game in the middle of the field. A minor mishap saw Joe leave the field but he is well and possessing strained ligaments which should be OK in a week or two. Matt for fly half or Joby or the old maestro himself Steve Richmond?
Chingford continued to exert pressure and a combative performance at breakdowns saw Chelmsford repeatedly infringe which
cost them possession and territory. A good driving maul from the forwards saw Richard crash over the line shortly
before Joe's injury. Big Show then came to the fore with an excellent demonstration
of pace and handling skills which saw one handed passes, line breaks, handoffs, side steps, one handed catches and a fine overhead
pass which saw Ben scamper into the corner.
The game remained static for the last five minutes and Chingford came home with a good away win against determined opponents who continued to press for a try until the end. A good game demonstrating how far we have come this season.
