Match Report

KO 2.15pm

Anyone expecting a rerun of the close fought away win by Chingford earlier in the season were to be disappointed as Eton Manor tore the injury ravaged home side to shreds. Only six players from the first meeting this season were fit enough to play for Chingford whilst Eton Manor had most evidently a vastly improved set of three-quarters.

Right from the off it was obvious that with over 20 of Chingford’s first fifteen squad out injured, Eton Manor could dictate play as they wished. They scored their first converted try after 5 minutes but this was immediately pegged back to 7 – 3 with a penalty from Dan Boughtwood. There then followed an horrendous ankle dislocation to the Chingford hooker Nick Boraster Wright which forced the match to be moved to the spare pitch not being used, whilst the ambulance was awaited.

For the rest of the match Eton Manor scored regular tries taking their eventual tally to 48 points albeit stout defence by Chingford including, at the end, 5 colts managed to avoid a complete rout and with a little more luck could have seen a couple of tries in response.

There now follows a three week break which will hopefully allow a stronger team to be picked from the returning injured but with 2 more injured in this match it remains to be seen if the situation will actually improve in the short term.

“I’m really impressed with the way the boys stuck at it and especially with the youngsters that stepped up to the plate, it bodes well for the future”, said Coach Nick Starling.
