Match Report

Whilst the score against Ching looked very one-sided, it wasn’t
exactly easy an easy ‘march forth’ for top-of-the-table Chelmsford.
The game began with Ching competing well, but were pinned down in
their own half. After 7 minutes of good Chelmsford pressure Ching
elected to kick. Unfortunately the ball found the Chelmsford full-back
who ran out wide, linked to their dangerous centre who showed his pace
and power to score. Ching kept Chelmsford at bay thanks to great
tackles by many players including Patrick, Matt Marie and Nick Arnold
who was in the centres for the injured Matt Lumb.  At 14 minutes
Chelmsford doubled their lead thanks to some good drives towards the
line. Then with half-time looming Chelmsford were awarded a penalty
right on the Ching line and stormed over to lead at half-time 17-0.
Ching started the 2nd half  with greater intent, and a good kick by
Ben once again found a Chelmsford player who jinked his way past Ching
tackles to set up their 4th try.  Chelmsford began to turn the screw
and scored their 5th try after 6 minutes – by their powerful centre.
By now Chelmsford were dominating the play, particularly in the loose
with their next 2 trys showing Ching the way with their organisation,
positional play and power. Ching did turn over some of the rucks and
mauls, but in the end were unable to gain sufficient ball and use it
against Chelmsford.
Good solid performances by many players with Sam Mellen, Jack and Max
always trying to make things happen. Man of the match went to Ben who
tackled his heart out and tried to mix it up.
