Match Report
KO 3pm
Chingford travelled to Colchester more in hope than expectation but their spirited first half an hour performance belied their weakened side with Ollie Hoad at the heart of everything and with more cutting edge might easily have led at half time. As it was Colchester were gifted three ‘length of the pitch’ breakaway tries much against the run of play. All Chingford had to show for their dogged attacking was 2 long range penalty misses by Brendon Hart, who then had to be replaced after 28 minutes followed by Matt Lockwood limping off after 39 minutes, and a 19 nil deficit.
The Chingford three-quarters now leaderless and with forwards having to attempt to adapt in their midst were run ragged by Colchester who scored a further 8 tries which might easily have been more if they had limited their showboating. The last 10 minutes however were bizarre in the extreme with firstly JP Sharp the Chingford scrum half rightly yellow carded for petulance and then Chris Moore the openside flanker scoring a hat trick of tries, none converted, to mean Chingford actually won the last 10 minutes 15 – 14 with 14 men. The final score line flattered Colchester but was as much as a seriously weak Chingford side deserved and they are far from completely safe from relegation.
